Edmond Thomas Goulding, 95, passed away at home on April 4th, 2024, surrounded by his loving children. Edmond was born at St. Vincent’s Maternity Hospital in Kansas City, MO on July 20,1928 to Edmond Thomas, Sr., and Anna Marie Goulding. He attended Holy Name Grade School and Bishop Ward High School, where he graduated in 1949 after serving in the Navy. Edmond met the love of his life, Joanne Leavell, in Rosedale at Gratny’s Drug Store in 1948. They were married at Holy Name Catholic Church on June 23, 1951. Edmond and Joanne started their family in 1952 in Rosedale and then moved to Shawnee in 1957, where their neighbors became lifelong friends.
While raising six children, Edmond worked as many as three jobs to support his growing family, eventually making a career with the Federal Aviation Administration in the airport planning division, retiring in July 1988. Edmond enjoyed coaching little league baseball, growing tomatoes, and supporting Joanne in her charitable activities. In retirement, Edmond enjoyed playing golf, volunteering with Joanne at St. Mary’s Food Kitchen and traveling together all over the US. As a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle, Edmond cherished his family and treasured going to countless sporting events, recitals, school programs, graduations, weddings, and baptisms. A lifelong fan of the Kansas City A’s, Royals and Chiefs, he rarely missed a game on TV or radio.
Edmond was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Joanne, his parents and his brother, Donald. He is survived by his six children; Thomas (Mary), Theresa (Peter), Timothy (Julie), Mark (Brenda), Marianne, and Michael (Katherine); his sisters-in-law Elizabeth Goulding and Millie Leavell; thirteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; eight nieces and nephews, numerous great-nieces and nephews, cousins and close friend Stephen Millin.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 11311 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, KS on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at 12pm, with visitation starting at 11am. Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, 61st and Quivira Road, Shawnee, KS. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Holy Name of Jesus Catholic School, Fr. Jerry Spencer Memorial Education Fund, 1007 Southwest Boulevard, Kansas City, KS 66103.
