Edna Frances Kassel Gay, age 93, formerly from Wantagh NY and Shawnee KS, passed away on January 21, 2022. She lived a long healthy life. Edna was born on December 2, 1928 in New York City (Brooklyn) to Edward and Frances Kassel. Edna grew up in Queens and Greenport, NY. Her father was an electrician in the city he was called to build Non-Metallic Mine Sweepers for WW2 in Greenport.

She went to Richmond Hill High School in Queens, graduated 10th of 250 in her class with a 90.72% GPA. She took Secretarial classes and worked as a secretary until Gregory and Kenneth were born in 1955 and 56. She survived her husband John W Gay (Jack) by 13 years. Edna met Jack (they were “Jack & Ed”) at Rockaway Beach and would enjoy time at the beach and Coney Island.

They married and lived in Bellmore and Wantagh, NY for the next 20 years. Ed & Jack and the Kids spent every summer on the water, in a boat or at the beach. That’s what you did if you live 5 miles from the Atlantic Ocean. Edna loved her parent’s summer house in Greenport. She spent most of her childhood summers there. The Gay family would then spend most of their summers in Greenport.

Edna moved to Shawnee KS in 1977 with Jack. He took a job in Edwardsville, KS. They quickly made friends and enjoyed playing Bridge in several groups in the area. Edna enjoyed entertaining and shopping!! She was also very good in the yard and loved her big Peony Patch.

For a while Edna was fine after Jack passed. Soon she became forgetful. In 2016 she was placed in Wellsville Health and Rehab in Wellsville, KS. She passed there on January 21st 2022.
