Edna L. Van Hoet

Edna L. Van Hoet of Shawnee, KS, died the 23rd of December, 2014 at Shawnee Gardens in Shawnee, KS.

Edna was born July 26, 1923 in southern Iowa and grew up in that area. She graduated from Sheridan High School, Sheridan, MO in 1941. After graduation, she came to Kansas City and attended the KC College of Commerce Business College where she received her business training. She married husband, Ernest Van Hoet, in 1946. She was employed with Southwestern Bell 33 years before retiring in 1981 as a secretary. Her retirement years were spent volunteering and spending lots of quality time with family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter (Carolyn Ness), one sister, and three brothers. Surviving are son, Michael Van Hoet, sister, Lola Haley, brother, LaVelle Hibbs, 4 grandchildren (Gretchen Ganey, Brandy Lant, Erin Van Hoet, and Eric Ness), 5 great-grandchildren (Jack Lant, Garrett Lant, Atticus Ganey, Ronan Ganey, and Vivien Ganey), and numerous nieces and nephews.

Edna was a lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, Overland Park VFW Women's Auxiliary, Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary, local chapter AARP, and St. Joseph Ladies Guild.

Visitation to be 9:30 - 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, December 30, 2014 followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Shawnee, KS. Burial to be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Shawnee, KS.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Special Olympics of Kansas, American Heart Association, and American Cancer Society.
