Edward Neal Hervey

Edward Neal Hervey, 85, of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away, Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, Kansas. He had been a resident of Carrington Place in Pittsburg since June 13, 2013.

Neal was born in Kansas City, Kansas, on September 29, 1927. He was the son of Bill and Grace Hervey. Neal was raised in the Rosedale area off Southwest Boulevard. He graduated from Rosedale High School where he received many awards for academics and athletics. Neal served in the US Army aboard the ship USS Mary and was trained as a medic. He was a member of Rosedale Masonic Lodge #33, the Scottish Rite, York Rite, the Abdallah Shrine, and the Shawnee American Legion. Neal’s career included being a cabinet maker, carpenter, and home contractor.

He married Ruth Becker in May of 1948. She preceded him in death in 1990. Also preceding him in death were his parents, two sisters, Dot Hervey, and Betty Sixta and a grandson, Seth Roberts. Survivors include a son Tim (Carol) Hervey, of Farlington, Kansas; a daughter, Tamara (Larry) Miller of Pittsburg, Kansas; grandchildren, great grandchildren, and his dear friend Shirley Schmidt.

Visitation will begin at 9 a.m., Saturday, July 13, 2013, with funeral services following at 10:30 a.m. at the Amos Family Funeral Home, 10901 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, Kansas. Burial will follow in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Morse, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children in St. Louis, which can be mailed to the funeral home or online.
