Ed Burton, 85, of Stilwell, KS, passed away, Saturday, January 24, 2015.
He was born October 21, 1929 in Slaton, TX to John C. and Lillie Oldham Burton. He worked for the Santa Fe Railroad before attending Texas A&M. His education was interrupted while he served in the Army during the Korean War. He graduated from Texas A&M in 1958 with a degree in Civil Engineering. He received a Master's Degree from KU in 1968. He worked at Black & Veatch for 32 years, retiring in 1992.
Ed was a member and Elder of Overland Park Christian Church. He was an active member of the KC Carver's Club and held numerous offices over the years. He was an Eagle Scout and active in scouting for over 40 years. He loved wood carving, gardening, and outdoor activities of all kinds.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Laura Susan Burton, in 1993 and two brothers, J. C. and Bob Burton. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Betty; a son Jim (Lisa) Burton; sisters, Leona Dickow and Ruth Koester and two grandchildren, William Burton and Katie Burton.
Visitation will be 10 - 11 a.m., Friday with funeral services following at 11 a.m., at the Overland Park Christian Church.
The family suggests contributions to the church or the Boy Scouts.
