Eileen Mcanany

February 25, 1925 — January 1, 2010

Marjorie Eileen McAnany, age 84, of Countryside (now Mission), Kansas, slipped quietly away on New Year’s Day 2010 after a brief illness while visiting family in Alexandria, Virginia.

Eileen was one of the five children of Roy and Gladys Daly of Kansas City, Kansas. She grew up in Kansas City, Kansas, and attended Bishop Ward High School. She served as the legal secretary for several prominent Kansas City attorneys before joining Skelly Oil Company on the Plaza. She later became the executive secretary for the regional manager of AT&T in Kansas City. Upon the death of her sister Monica in 1961, Eileen took on the responsibility of caring for Monica’s five children. She married Bevan McAnany in 1964 and bore a daughter, Paula.

Eileen enjoyed a long and active life. Golf, which she enjoyed in her earlier years, was replaced by gardening later in life. Her home was always the hub of family gatherings, large and small. She traveled widely, both to experience new and exciting places, and to visit the far-flung members of her family. Throughout her life she was devoted to her church and gave freely of herself to various Catholic charities.

Eileen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bevan; her brother, Roy E. Daly, Jr.; and her sisters, Monica McAnany and Jean Oliver.

Eileen is survived by her brother, James J. Daly; her sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Daly; her brother-in-law, Larry Oliver; and by the following children: Patrick D. McAnany, Elizabeth Ann (Betsy) Alexander, Jane Jacobson, Sarah Cline, Martha Sumrall, and Paula Link. She leaves behind 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, as well as innumerable members of the Daly and McAnany clans.

In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to the Sisters Servants of Mary, 800 N. 18th St., Kansas City, Kansas, 66102.
