Eileen Smith

Eileen Smith, 93, of Lenexa, passed away Thursday, May 20, 2010 at Lakeview Village in Lenexa, Kansas.

Eileen was born March 6, 1917, to Frank and Ella Flinn in Shawnee, Kansas. She graduated from Shawnee Mission High School in 1936. On November 24, 1938, she married Elmo Smith in Monticello, Kansas. In 1950, Eileen and Elmo purchased a Western Auto Store in Kingman, Kansas, and lived there for over 20 years before returning to Shawnee in 1971. While in Kingman, Eileen raised her two daughters as well as worked in the store with her husband. They were members of the Kingman United Methodist Church. Eileen was active in local clubs and volunteered as a Girl Scout Leader for several years.

The most important part of her life was her family. One of her greatest joys was being a part of her grandchildren and great grandchildren's lives, activities and accomplishments. Eileen loved living at Lakeview Village for the last seven years.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Elmo; her parents, sisters, Frances Simpson and Wanda Huddleston and brother Conrad Flinn. Eileen is survived by her two daughters, Sharon Young (Gary), Tulsa, Oklahoma; Carolyn DeFeo (David), Mission, Kansas; five grandchildren, Angela Wagner (Mike), Leawood, Kansas; Todd Young (Suellen), Austin, Texas; Heather Minor (Mike), Prairie Village, Kansas; Heidi Meyer (Matt), Chicago, Illinois; Erin Tollefson, Fairway, Kansas; a brother, Charles Flinn (Edie), sister-in-law Lois Flinn, both of DeSoto, Kansas; eleven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Luke's Hospice, 3100 Broadway, Suite. 1000, Kansas City, Missouri 64111 or Lakeview Village, 9100 Park St. Lenexa, Kansas 66215.

Visitation and Funeral Service

Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, May 23, 2010, at Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, May 24, 2010, at the chapel. Burial will follow at the Monticello Union Cemetery in Shawnee, Kansas.
