Elaine D. Southern

Elaine D. Southern, 87 years old, passed away March 12, 2018. Elaine was born January 17, 1931 in Missouri Valley, Iowa to Denzel and Helen Davenport. Elaine is survived by her husband, Derrell, children, Jennifer (Gary) Osborn, Julie (Lynn) Holcomb, Mark Southern and Fredrick (Lynne) Southern, seven grandchildren, Christopher, Jeffrey, Melissa, Ryan, Philip, Paul and Mark, three great-grandchildren, Ciara, Morgan, and Tyler. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents.

Elaine graduated from Missouri Valley High School in 1949.  After High School she met and later married Derrell Southern in October of 1950.  She worked as a Secretary/Bookeeper prior to the arrival of children and then became a full time homemaker. Elaine and Derrell lived in Florida while Derrell was in the Navy and later moved to Kansas City Ks where they resided for many years. In 1990 they moved to Lake of the Forest, Bonner Springs, where Elaine enjoyed  her neighbors and was involved in many Lake activities. She had a strong Catholic Faith and enjoyed singing in the Choir for many years. She enjoyed writing poetry but her real passion was cooking.

A Visitation is set for 9:30 ~ 10:30 AM, Friday, March 23, 2018 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 12800 W. 75th Street, Shawnee, Kansas 66216 with a 10:30 AM, Memorial Mass also at the Church. Inurnment will take place at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Lenexa, Kansas.
