Elaine (Frenchy) Poirot Sokol

December 13, 1929 — July 6, 2023

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Elaine Poirot Sokol, lovingly known by many as "Frenchy," on Thursday, July 6th, 2023. She peacefully departed this world at the age of 93, surrounded by her children and grandchildren in the comfort of her own home. In honor of her vibrant and spirited life, the family will be hosting a celebration of life to commemorate Elaine's remarkable journey instead of holding a traditional funeral.

Elaine was born on a fateful Friday, December 13th, 1929, in Chaumont, France. Her early years were defined by the turmoil and hardships of World War II, during which she and her family valiantly fought to protect their community and country. This experience instilled in Elaine an indomitable fighting spirit that would shape her character for years to come. Despite her small stature, Elaine was mighty in her determination and resilience.

On September 10, 1955, Elaine married the love of her life, American soldier Donald Edward Sokol, in her hometown of Chaumont. As a military couple, Elaine and Don were stationed across Europe and the United States, immersing themselves in diverse cultures and experiences. In 1968, Elaine proudly became an American citizen, cherishing the opportunity to raise her five children in her newfound home. Following their divorce in 1971, she bravely faced the challenge of single-handedly raising her children in Junction City and Salina, Kansas, embodying the strength and perseverance that defined her.

At the age of 55, Elaine embarked on a new chapter in her life by becoming a nurse in Salina, Kansas. She wholeheartedly embraced her profession and discovered immense joy in caring for others. Elaine's relentless dedication and compassion were evident to all who crossed her path, as she tirelessly worked to provide comfort and support to those in need. Her gentle touch and kind words touched countless lives.

Elaine's infectious laughter greeted everyone she encountered, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts. Her love for singing and dancing, particularly to the melodies of Elvis and French songs, brought immense delight to those around her. In her later years, Elaine found immense joy in taking leisurely strolls with her furry grandson, Milo, embracing her love for animals and the companionship they bring.

Elaine leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. She is survived by her sons, Phil Sokol and significant other, Anita Rodriguez, Claude Sokol and his significant other, Lisa Deppish, Alan Sokol and his wife Shawna Sokol, and daughters Christine Sokol Ashcraft and Donna Sokol. Elaine also leaves behind her adored grandchildren, Brandon Sokol, Jesa Sokol and her husband Ryan Loman, Deni Sokol, Amber Sokol, and her great-granddaughter Erielle, her sister Michelle Joffroy, nephews Thierry and Lionel of Chaumont, France. Their lives have been enriched by Elaine's unwavering love and guidance.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the compassionate staff of Crossroads Hospice of Lenexa for their unwavering support and guidance throughout this difficult time. In honor of Elaine's love for animals, donations may be made to Crossroads Hospice or the Humane Society of Kansas, or to your local animal shelter, as a fitting tribute to her compassionate spirit.

Elaine (Frenchy) Poirot Sokol will be remembered as a woman of strength, laughter, and unyielding love. Her diminutive stature belied the mighty force within her. Her legacy will continue to inspire and guide all those who had the privilege of knowing her. May her soul find eternal peace and may her memory forever be a source of solace and joy.
