Elizabeth Jane Riddell Dick

March 27, 1930 — July 28, 2020

Elizabeth Jane (Betty) Riddell was born March 27, 1930 in Louisville, Kentucky to parents Mildred (nee Castile) and Crocket Morgan (Jack) Riddell. At age 3, Betty's dad was killed in the line of duty as a Deputy Sheriff. Mildred remarried and the family migrated west to Kansas City, Kansas. Betty attended Wyandotte High school and graduated as Valedictorian of her class. She excelled in debate and her trophies are on display in the school to this day. Betty went on to work at Sears Roebuck Company and attended Rockhurst College. She enjoyed playing tennis on the Country Club Plaza court in her spare time.

After graduating college, Betty met and married Henry James Dick, Jr. while he was in Medical School. They started a family and Betty became a stay-at-home mom, later working as a Home Health Nurse, and then Realtor. She appraised houses for Fannie Mae, rented homes, and sold home loans for the bank. She was proud of her accomplishments, but to her, the most important thing were her three kids: John, Henry and Janet. She was a girl scout leader, softball coach, driver for garage band, spent countless hours in bleachers for baseball games, basketball games, parades, scout ceremonies, plays and cheerleading events. She played golf, ice skated at Mathias Lake, worked in the community, hosted Thanksgiving dinner, and loved Christmas. She loved Broadway music, Barbara Streisand, Hello Dolly, Mame, and Cabaret. Betty was a giver, a helper and she had a heart for others in need. Her favorite charity was St. Judes Children Hospital. Betty and her mom remained close and became doll collectors, travel partners, argued over who was going to pay the dinner bill and worked on genealogy. Betty adored her family, delighting in her grandchildren by attending ballgames, graduations, birthday parties and weddings. In her last days, she said "I had a wonderful life! A magnificent life! ……A career, successful kids, and wonderful grandkids. I'm ready to go to Heaven." On July 28, 2020 she left us all with full hearts of love. She will be missed. She is survived by siblings: Helen Brisson (Bill), Della Armstrong, James Bishop. Children: John Dick (Patty), Henry Dick (Caren), Janet Wilson (Rickey). Grandchildren: Elizabeth O'Halloran (Chris), Elliot Wilson (Phoebe), Erica Dick, Charlie Dick, and Lindy Tangeman (Alex). Great Grandchildren: Natalie, Max, Brynnlie, Emma, Noah, and Isabel. Nieces, Nephews, and friends.

A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, August 8th at 2 pm at The Amos Family Funeral Home, 10901 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, Kansas 66203.
