Elizabeth J. Laddin

May 28, 1920 — July 31, 2015

Elizabeth Jane (Kribbs) Laddin, 95, passed away July 31, 2015 in Shawnee, Kansas.

Elizabeth was born May 28, 1920, in Knox, Pennsylvania to her parents, Annie and Philip Kribbs, the third of four children. She attended school in Knox in the same building for 12 years, graduating from high school in 1939. She was the drum majorette for the high school band, leading the band in parades. She also played the bass viol in the band. She graduated summa cum laude from Muskingum College in 1942, and performed an internship at the Johns Hopkins University hospital. Elizabeth served her country during WW II by enlisting as a Lieutenant in the US Army Medical Corps in 1944. She was stationed on Guam, Saipan, Tinian, and Iwo Jima. She met her husband, Sidney Laddin, during the time she was in the service and they were married for 61 years until Sid's death in 2007. In the early years of their marriage they lived in St. Louis, Missouri. Elizabeth and Sid moved to the Kansas City area in 1957 and lived on a small farm in Shawnee, Kansas for almost 50 years. Elizabeth worked as a registered dietitian for many years, retiring from Bethany Medical Center in 1985.

Elizabeth is survived by her sister, Nancy Tharan, her daughters, Sandy Chizar and Linda Laddin, her son Mike Laddin, her daughter-in-law Susan Wylie, her grandchildren Ralph Zuckerman, Susan Billante, Philip Laddin and Chris Laddin, and her great-grandchildren Noah Billante and Jacob Zuckerman.

Elizabeth was a gracious and conscientious woman. She was devoted to her family. She and Sid enjoyed fine dining and cooking delicious meals together. Elizabeth had a first class mind and she loved to learn new things. She encouraged and supported the educational endeavors of her children and grandchildren. For many years she volunteered at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, the Johnson County Library and Shawnee Community Services. She was also a member of the Women's City Club and the Kansas City Business Women's Association. She loved the farm and the many animals who lived there over the years, particularly her cats, Marco and Polo. She read the newspaper and worked the crossword puzzle every morning and always took time to clip articles she thought would benefit her family. We will miss her presence in our lives.

Elizabeth's ashes will be interred in the Kribbs section of the Union Cemetery in Knox, Pennsylvania.
