Elizabeth B. ("Liz") Murphy, 81, passed away on December 16, 2016, in her home at Rose Estates Assisted Living in Overland Park, Kansas.

Liz is preceded in death by her husband, Peter James Murphy, Jr.; parents, Hendry Shivers and Hanna Stokes Byam; sister, Jane Adkins; and brother, Hank Byam.

Liz is survived by four children, Teresa Marie Murphy (Ruben Villa), Suzanne Elizabeth Foster (Michael G.), Peter James Murphy III (Lisa), and Thomas Byam Murphy (Mary); 11 grandchildren, Elizabeth Mary Abbott (Michael), Dale Thomas Foster (Jenny Fry), Peter James Murphy IV (Mary Katherine), Ann Therese Murphy (Fernando Vilches), Sean Murphy Foster, Jennifer Clare Murphy, Paul Joseph Murphy, John Paul Murphy, Michael Patrick Murphy, Joseph Benedict Murphy, and Joely Grace Murphy; five great-grandchildren, Peter James Murphy V, Andrew Thomas Murphy, Isaac Atillio Abbott, Lucy Marie Murphy, and Eleanor Rose Murphy; and many nieces and nephews.

Liz was born January 7, 1935, grew up in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, then lived in Quincy, Illinois and Dallas Texas with her husband, Pete. Liz spent the early years of her marriage as a homemaker and part-time legal secretary in Pete's patent law office in Dallas, Texas. Shortly, after Pete's death in 1986, she moved to the Overland Park, Kansas area to be near her grandchildren. She enjoyed travelling (New Zealand, Hawaii, Alaska, and many places in the continental US), hand work (including counted cross-stich, crochet, and knitting), reading, the study and practice of Science of Mind, and spending time with many wonderful friends (including many years of participation in a "book" club, whose activities involved at least a little serious discussion of books). In earlier years, Liz pursued learning to draw and to play the organ. Until the last two years, Liz was very active with exercise, Tai Chi, and chair yoga.

The family wishes to express their gratitude and appreciation to the nursing staff and others who cared for Liz at Rose Estates during the last nine months.
