Elizabeth H. Pfeiffer

June 7, 1921 — February 13, 2010

After a long and active life, Elizabeth Louise Pfeiffer, known affectionately as Betty, passed away this Saturday, February 13, 2010.

She was born June 7, 1921 in Taegu, Korea, to the Rev. Harold and Edna Henderson, Presbyterian Missionaries, and attended boarding school in Pyongyang, Korea. After returning to the U.S., she graduated from San Francisco State University, and, on February 16, 1945, she married Rev. Dr. William (Bill) Pfeiffer.

Betty and Bill served Presbyterian churches in Pleasanton, Syracuse, and Paola, Kansas. Betty was active in the church choir, teaching Sunday School and raising their two sons, Larry and Rick Pfeiffer. Later she sang in Rolling Hills Church choral group for 37 years.

Betty is survived by her husband of sixty-five years, Rev. Dr. Bill Pfeiffer; her sons, Larry and Rick, and by their wives, Morgan and Cynthia; grandchildren, Ryan and his wife Libby, Jordan, Benjamin and his wife Sarah, and Jennifer and her husband Jason Wilson; great-granddaughter, Hallie Ann Pfeiffer; siblings and their spouses: The Rev. Richard Henderson of Story, Wyoming, Dr. Anne Henderson of Needham, Massachusetts, Mrs. Margaret Weaver and her husband Donald of Claremont, Florida, The Rev. Lloyd Henderson and his wife Valarie of Kentfield, California, Mrs. Kathleen Fine of Richmond, Virginia, David Henderson and his wife Katherine of Swoope, Virginia, and Ms. Deborah Henderson of Burlington, Virginia; and niece Mary Anne Arnott and husband Jim of Iola, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, who were missionaries in Korea, and by her stepmother, Renate Henderson of Swarthmore, Pennsylvania.

The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in her memory to the Village Presbyterian Church, 6641 Mission Road, Prairie Village, Kansas 66208.

Celebration of Life Services

The memorial celebration of Betty's life will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday February 18, 2010, in the Chapel at Village Presbyterian Church.
