Elizabeth E. (Betty) Shull, 94, of Overland Park, KS, passed away late Friday, January 22, 2016. Betty was born in Franklin County, Washington, on January 27, 1921 to Frederick W. and Cecelia J. Stuhr. She was raised in Yakima, Washington as one of 13 children, growing up in the Great Depression in a small house with those 13 siblings. Betty graduated from the St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in 1943 and, leaving home for the first time, became a nurse in the United States Army during World War II. Betty served throughout the South Pacific including Australia, New Guinea and the Philippines and earned two campaign stars before receiving her honorable discharge in 1946 as a 1st Lieutenant. She met Edgar Shull while they were both on active duty and they were married in Yakima, Washington, on August 22, 1946, beginning a 59 year love story. Betty's passion was her sons, daughter-in-laws, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she hosted every Sunday for "Sunday Dinner", creating some of our best family memories. She would always cook enough to send food home, and to entertain the unexpected guests that we always managed to have. In addition to managing an active household with 5 sons, Betty was known to thousands of students at Milburn Junior High School where she served as school nurse for almost 25 years before her retirement in 1988. Betty is survived by five sons and their spouses: William and Sharon Shull, Kearney, MO; Robert and Loretta Shull, Lenexa, KS; Gerald T. Shull, Overland Park, KS; John and Karen Shull, Mission, KS, and David and Linda Shull, Lenexa, KS. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren: Shari Fox, Jennifer Olson, William E. Shull III, Robert D. Shull, Rebecca E. Gwilliam, Brian S. Shull, Kathryn A. Schmidt, Matthew S. Shull, Ryan C. Trader, Kevin T. Trader, Jeremy T. Shull, Dustin T. Shull, Lauren P. Huey, Lindsay E. Shull, W. Joseph Shull, Jeffrey M. Shull and Jonathan D. Shull, and 32 greatgrandchildren. She has one surviving brother, Gary Stuhr of Yakima, WA.
