Elizabeth (Libby) S. Terry, 86, formerly of Winchester, Virginia, died peacefully on February 19, 2013.
Winchester was Libby's home for most of her adult life, and her heart remained there until her death, although she moved to Overland Park, Kansas, several years ago to be near her only son as her health declined.
Libby had become known as "the hat lady" at Delmar Gardens, the skilled nursing facility where staff treated her like family and frequently stopped by to say hello and admire her hat collection.
Preceding Libby in death was former husband William Terry and siblings Goldie Long, Grace Davis and Floyd Shook.
Libby is survived by son Ruben Lane Terry and his wife Darlene, along with her only granddaughter Ashton, all of Overland Park, Kansas. Libby's extended surviving family includes sister Gladys Edmonds, and several nieces and nephews.
Libby's son is grateful to niece Kay Hart, who visited Libby in Kansas, and called nearly every day. Libby's room was often adorned with beautiful bouquets from Kay to remind her she was loved and missed.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date in Winchester, Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Libby's memory to:
