Elmer “Gene” Renner, 88, of Leawood, KS passed away Saturday, May, 7, 2016. Gene is survived by his beloved wife Freida of 68 years; daughter Denise Carol Dahms (Steve); sister JoAnn Chapman; seven grandchildren Dustin Dodson, Brad (Julie) Dodson, Staci Howard, Tammy Laver and Carmen (Michael) Becker, Willy (Tina) Dahms, Steven Zeth Dahms; sixteen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Gene was proceeded in death by his daughter Dee Layne Bowman and his son Dennis Renner; his parents Elmer David and Hazel Fern Renner.

Gene and his sister JoAnn grew up on their parents farm in Olathe, KS, where they milked cows and chased chickens. After graduation from DeSoto, Kansas High School, Gene joined the Navy and spent his naval experience in New Orleans, Louisiana. Shortly thereafter, Gene met his sweetheart, Freida Plummer, and on March 5, 1948 they joined in matrimony. Gene began his working career with Plattsburg Lumber and Hardware in Plattsburg, Missouri and then worked for Sweet Lumber Company for six years. Gene and his father started Renner Supply Company in 1956. The success of Renner Supply prompted the expansion of adding Delden Mfg. in 1964. Once they started he never looked back. Both companies are thriving today.

Visitation and Funeral Service

A visitation will be held Tuesday, May 10, 2016 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Amos Family Funeral Home, 10901 Johnson Dr. Shawnee, KS. 66203, funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at 10 a.m., at the Amos Family Funeral Home, followed by private family graveside.
