Elsie F. Winters, 94, of Shawnee passed away on May 9, 2022. Visitation and services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 14, at Amos Funeral Home, 10901 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, KS. Interment will be held at Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens on Tuesday, May 17, beginning at 3:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be given to Tunnel to Towers or Wounded Warrior Project.
Elsie was born on May 7, 1928 to Frank L. and Mary Ellen (Pendley) Copeland, in Rogers, Arkansas. Elsie lived in the Kansas City, KS area her entire life graduating from Turner High School in 1946. Elsie was active in her church singing, playing the piano and organ. It was at church that she met and married her husband, William David Winters, in 1948. She cherished the time she worked alongside her husband in the ministry. She loved every minute she was able to host God’s people in her home.
During high school Elsie worked at Nellie Donn and in later years enjoyed working in the medical field. Elsie was an avid reader, seamstress and enjoyed china painting, baking and cooking.
Elsie is preceded in death by her husband, William David Winters; sister, Helen Skinner; son-in-law, Roger Smith; and great granddaughter, Katie Erin Smith. She is survived by daughters, Rachel Winters; Rebecca Smith; grandson, Andrew Smith and wife Kelly; grandson, Jordan P. Smith; granddaughter, Mallory Drake and husband Joshua; daughter, Deborah Strout and husband Gary; grandson, Benjamin Strout and wife, Stephanie; granddaughter, Stephanie Painter and husband, Darin; and seven great grandchildren, Eva, Connor, Liam, Kellan, Claire, Nicholas, and Leo; sisters Ruth Honeywell and Dorothy Cook.
Elsie’s family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at AdventHeath Shawnee Mission for the thoughtful and loving care given to Elsie during this time.
