Elsie O. Winters, 100, of Lenexa, KS passed away Nov. 23rd, 2014. She was born March 26, 1914 in her home near Onaga, KS, the daughter of August Ristow and Ida Wrosch Ristow. She spent her childhood there and was baptized in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Duluth, KS. Elsie was married to Clark Winters in 1936 in St. Louis, MO. They moved to Johnson County KS a short time later where she spent the rest of her life as a homemaker. She was a charter member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Mission, KS, later transferring her membership to Hope Lutheran. She was a member of the church's Dorcas Circle, she served on the altar guild, volunteered many hours to make quilts for the poor, and construct braille textbooks for the blind. She was also very involved with the Metro Lutheran Ministries. Elsie was preceded in death by her husband in 1992, by her parents, a sister Lucille Sitton, and a brother Walter Ristow. Survivors include her three children; Rodney Winters and his wife Sandy, Judy Baker and her husband Bill of Lenexa, KS, and John Winters of St. Joseph MO, Five grandchildren; Melinda Monsees, Robert Myer, Ryan Winters, Jeremy Winters, Brandon Winters, and eight great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held Saturday Nov. 29th from 10 to 11 am at the Hope Lutheran Church, Shawnee, KS. The funeral service will follow at 11 am also at the church. Burial will be in Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hope Lutheran Church in memory of Elsie.
