Elvira M. Samyn, “Vera”, age 83, of Kansas City, Kansas passed away peacefully on August 11, 2022 surrounded by her family after a short battle with cancer.
Vera was born on February 19, 1939 to Alouis and Yvonne Vandekerchove. She grew up on the family farm in Johnson County, Kansas with her sisters Frances and Louise. She often told stories about being on the farm. After working on the farm and graduating from Saint Joseph’s High School in 1957, she enjoyed working as a bank teller at Rosedale Bank. In 1968, she met Constant “Connie” Samyn, and they wed in October of 1968, going on to have 3 children and 9 grandchildren. Vera and Connie were married for 54 years at the time of her passing and resided in Kansas City, Kansas.
Vera dedicated her life to being a fantastic and wonderful mother to John, David, and Karen. She was the best mother a person could have and was always there for her children. She made it a mission to improve the lives of not only her family but all those that she met. Her family and friends were blessed to have been in her company. She will be deeply missed.
When she wasn’t filling the family home with warmth and kindness, she could be found bowling with her friends, out on her daily walks, or at Saint Patrick’s Church where she sang in the choir and was an active member of the Saint Anthony’s Circle. She helped organize and plan funeral luncheons for all members of the church. She loved being around her friends whether it be on a Saturday trip to the casino or just sitting and chatting on the glider under her shade tree.
Vera was preceded in death by her sister Louise Rodgers. She is survived by her husband Constant Samyn, children John Samyn (Jennifer) of Overland Park, KS; David Samyn of Olathe, KS; and Karen Bartelli (Tom) of Overland Park, KS. She is also survived by her grandchildren Tyler, Thomas, Jacob, James, Joseph, Tanner, Edward, Elle, and Isabella and her sister Frances Vanmeerhaeghe.
