Emma M. DeCaeny, 89, of Overland Park, Kansas, died on November 28, 2018. Emma was born January 3, 1929 to Gustave and Mary (Soetaert) Cashier in Shawnee, Kansas. She was a member of Queen of the Holy Catholic Church, and was a longtime resident of Johnson County, Kansas.
Emma was a devoted wife, loving mother and proud grandmother; she loved with her whole heart. She found joy and comfort in the peaceful dwelling of her home. A consummate mother and homemaker, Emma was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family. Her Sunday dinners and holiday feasts have left her family with fond indelible memories. One of the most important things in Emma's life was gardening, and she took great pride in her flowers. Through her patience and perseverance and a love for living things she found beauty and a satisfaction in seeing the results of her labor grow and come to fruition. She was also a sports fan and enjoyed watching on TV the Kansas City Chiefs, KC Royals and KU basketball.
Emma was predeceased by her loving husband Albert DeCaeny, whom she married on August 4, 1951 in Shawnee Kansas. She was preceded in death by her siblings Albert J. Cashier, John G. Cashier, Henry C. Cashier. Mary L. Edds, Louise M. Compton, and E. Bernice Ryckert, and four nephews. She is survived by her daughters Janet Meddings (Joel) and Beverly Smith (Brian), grandsons Jeff Smith and Mark Smith (Tiffany) and great-grandson, Jack. She is also survived by her sister Margaret A. Graham, many nieces and nephews, and friends all of whom she kept close to her heart.
