Erlene J. Henik, 86, of Shawnee, passed away Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at Sharon Lane Nursing Home.
Erlene was born January 26, 1928 in Kansas City, Kansas. She graduated from Central High School in 1946. After graduation, she attended St. Joseph School of Nursing. On May 20th, 1950 she married Fred Henik in Kansas City, MO. Erlene was active in her children's lives, volunteering as both a Girl Scout and Cub Scout Leader. She was a member of the Shawnee United Methodist Church where she served in many capacities. Erlene was an avid round and square dancer.
Erlene is survived by her husband of 64 years, Fred Henik; a son Roger Henik; two daughters, Vickie Hammons (Jim); Gail Ridgway (Gene); a sister, Beverly Campbell (Marvin); six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Visitation will be 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, September 6, 2014 at the Shawnee United Methodist Church, 10700 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, KS 66203. A Celebration of Erlene's life will follow at 2 p.m. at the church.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Shawnee United Methodist Women, 10700 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, Kansas 66203; or to Crossroads Hospice 9237 Ward Parkway, Kansas City, MO 64114.
