Erna Dean House

Erna Dean House, 70, of Kansas City, KS, passed away at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission Hospital on Saturday, September 28, 2019 surrounded by her family.

Erna was born on February 21, 1949 in Kansas City, KS to Ernest L. and Hazel D. Hall. She graduated from Wyandotte High School and went on to earn a degree in nursing from Bethany Hospital School of Nursing in 1970. She spent the majority of her nursing career serving in the medical community of the greater Kansas City area.

Erna retired from nursing on February 28, 2014 after 44 years of service to the health and wellbeing of others. She was known for her compassionate patient care and kindness to all. She will be remembered fondly and greatly missed by all who knew her and/or had the privilege of working with her.

Erna married the love of her life, Stanley "Gene" House on July 12, 1969. Together they raised three precious children. Their marriage spanned 49 love-filled years until Gene's passing in July of 2018.

Her devotion to family and friends was a hallmark and the central focus of her life. She was the absolute best wife, mother, aunt and friend. Loving concern for her family and friends through the giving of her time, attention, and resources was her true joy in life.

Erna was a sports fan and paid close attention to the Chiefs, Royals and Kansas Jayhawks. She particularly loved watching a good Jayhawks basketball game with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gene; her daughter Rebecca House in 2009; and her son, Thomas, in June of 2019.

Erna is survived by a son, Andrew, of Overland Park, KS; three brothers, Fred (Sharon) Hall of Goodland, KS, David (Angela) Hall of New Sharon, IA, Clifford (Jennifer) Hall of Kansas City, KS; numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws. She will be deeply missed by all.

Visitation from 12-1 pm on Thursday at Bristol Hills United Methodist Church with a funeral service to immediately follow. Burial at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
