Ernestine M. Irvine

January 11, 1920 — January 1, 2015

Ernestine Ayers Irvine, 94, of Shawnee, KS passed away Jan. 1, 2015. She was born Jan. 11, 1920 in Trenton, MO to John Ernest and Maud Lillian Ayers. She attended elementary school in Altamont, MO and then Kansas City, MO. She graduated from Northeast High School, Kansas City, MO in 1937. She then attended the University of Kentucky. On September 4, 1945 she was united in marriage to her husband James Elbert Irvine. Ernestine worked for the Hercules Powder Company and was later employed by the Bendix Corporation. She also held secretarial jobs with various churches. After her husband retired in 1979 they moved to Kimberling City, MO where they were active members of the St. Andrew Presbyterian Church. Then in 1985 they moved to Clinton, MO where they attended the Christian Church, and in 1991 moved to Independence, MO and were members of the Pleasant View Christian Church. In 2001 they made the move to Shawnee, KS where they were proud members of the Lenexa United Methodist Church. Ernestine was preceded in death by her parents, siblings; Alwilda Della and Herbert Truman Ayers, and by one great-grandchild Jenson. She is survived by her sons; James Ernest, Jeremy Thomas, and William Ray Irvine, her daughter Laurel Anne Stephens, nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Ernestine will be forever missed by her loving family and many friends.

Visitation & Funeral Service

A visitation will be held Monday from 6 to 8 pm at the Amos Family Funeral Home & Crematory, Shawnee, KS. The funeral service will be held 10 am Tuesday also at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens.
