Ernestine C. Johnson, 86, of Lenexa, KS passed away Mar. 31, 2014. She was born Aug. 30, 1927 to William G. and Josephine (Carlile) Johnson of Stark, KS. The family moved to the Carlile Homestead farm in 1939 and she graduated from Mound City, KS High School. She received her Masters degree in Education from Pittsburg State University in 1957 and taught in the Shawnee Mission School district for 25 years. She volunteered with VISTA, was a lifelong member of the Lenexa Historical Society, and was a member of Lenexa Republican Women. Walt and Ernestine were both proud, lifelong members of the Lenexa United Methodist Church. Ernestine was preceded in death by her husband Walter Johnson and brother Thayne Johnson. She is survived by her children, Jeffrey Johnson and his wife Karen and Jan Hicks and her husband Denny, by her grandchildren; Cecily Johnson, Jocelyn Knight, Kaci Jo Cartwright, Cameron Miles, Walter Johnson, and Kaylee Hicks, great-grandchildren, Audrey and Liam.
A memorial service will be held Sat. Apr. 5th, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Lenexa United Methodist Chruch 9138 Caenen Lake Rd, Lenexa, KS 66215. A reception will follow.
