Esther Annabelle Jones

Esther Annabelle Jones, 92, passed away peacefully December 17, 2014 at Shawnee Hills Senior Living. Visitation will take place at The Amos Family Funeral Home in Shawnee, KS, on Friday, December 19 from 5-7pm. Funeral services will take place at Merriam Christian Church on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at 10am. Esther was preceded in death by her parents Viola and Leonard Hontz; her husband Lawrence Jones; her granddaughter Rhonda Studdard; and her sisters Frances Russum, Ruth Dooley, Betty Summy and Mildred Burks. She is survived by her sons, Bill Jones (Jean) of Linwood, KS and Donald Jones (Peggy) of Olathe, KS; daughter Linda Snook (Greg) of Shawnee, KS; grandchildren Paul Jones (Barbara), Connie Orman, Bill Jones, Mike Jones (Susan), Tim Jones (Faith), Julie Stokes (Brian), Debra Heimsoth (Mark) and Robert Snook; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Esther was born August 3rd, 1922 in Kansas City, KS. She dropped out of school in 9th grade to care for younger sisters due to her Mother's illness; she remained a caring and nurturing person throughout her entire life. Esther married the love of her life, William Lawrence Jones, on February 21, 1942, and together they dedicated their lives to raising their three children. Their home is remembered as being the centerpiece of many warm family gatherings. When Lawrence became ill, Esther became faithfully devoted as his full time caregiver until his passing on July 20, 1989.

Esther leaves behind a legacy of a life well lived; her family has many fond memories of her fun-loving nature and happy demeanor. Her love for God was apparent. She was a member of Merriam Christian Church for over 45 years, serving as a Sunday school teacher, volunteering in Women's ministry, and honored as Deacon Emeritis. Esther also loved participating in church services and Bible studies at Shawnee Hills Senior Living.
