Ethel M. Shelton was born in Madison, Wisconsin, on March 29, 1917. She passed away April 23, 2012, at Signature Pointe on the Lake Assisted Living Center in Dallas, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold, in 1997 and her daughter, Sue Valder, in 2008.
Ethel attended the University of Wisconsin on a math scholarship and later worked as a legal secretary for the State of Wisconsin. During World War II, she worked for the Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. She moved to Overland Park in 1966. She was an active member of Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church from 1966 - 2010, where she volunteered in the rectory on a regular basis, was involved in church activities and was a member of St. Mary's Circle. She was a charter member of the Overland Park Women's Golf Association.
Ethel is survived by two children: John Shelton of Manhattan, Kansas, and Jane Landis of Richardson, Texas. She leaves behind her son-in-law, Steve Valder of Columbia, South Carolina, son-in-law George Landis of Richardson, Texas, grandchildren, Ken Valder of Seattle, Washington, Rebecca Valder of Columbia, South Carolina, James Valder of San Antonio, Texas, George Landis, Jr. of Richardson, Texas., Paul Landis and his wife Stephanie, of Houston, Texas, Patrick Landis of Dallas, Texas, and a brother, John Schwartz of Madison, Wisconsin.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 7, 2012, at Queen of the Holy Rosary Church followed by burial at Resurrection Cemetery.
