Evelyn B. Helm

May 27, 1921 — April 14, 2009

Evelyn B. Helm, 87, Overland Park, Kansas passed away Monday, April 14, 2009 at her home.

Evelyn was born May 27, 1921 in Macon, Missouri to Earl and Verna B. (Stuck) McCartie. She was a graduate of Argentine High School. Evelyn was the first female to be certified as an arc welder in the state of Kansas during WWII. Traveling was a passion, walking on many lands around the world. Being of Irish decent, she went to kiss the Blarney Stone in County Cork. She had a way of making everyone she came in contact with feel very special.

Evelyn is survived by her husband of 72 years, John Helm of the home; son, John Helm, Jr. and his wife, Jill, Smithville, Missouri; daughter, Sandra Johnson and her husband, Harold, Kansas City, Kansas; sister, Raylene Wallace, Gladstone, Missouri. She was never happier then when spending time with her six grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and one great great grandson, one at a time or all together. She was so proud that she was able to see five generations. Evelyn will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
