Floreine W. Crumrine, 104, passed away on February 27, 2022. She was born December 4, 1917 to Hannah Victoria (Willis) Martin and Rueben LeRoy Martin in Buffalo, Kansas. Floreine attended Blue School in Grades 1 thru 8 and graduated from Buffalo High School in 1935. She graduated from Independence, KS Junior College two years later and started teaching at Little Sandy rural school, followed by teaching at Keck and Tonavay. In 1940 she moved with her parents to El Monte, California.
On March 15, 1942, Floreine married Hilmer Artie Crumrine, son of Rena (Pickering) Crumrine and Elta M. Crumrine. After their marriage, she and Hilmer lived in Boston, Massachusetts, for a short time before Hilmer was stationed overseas. During Hilmer's overseas deployment, Floreine moved back to El Monte, California, where Martin was born. When Hilmer returned from the war, they moved to Wichita, KS, where Jean and Jack were born, followed by a stay in Omaha, Nebraska, where Judy was born. They returned to Wichita for four (4) years and then moved to Shawnee, KS in 1956, where she lived for the last 66 years.
Floreine was an accomplished seamstress, sewing clothing for her children throughout their youth; worked in a fabric store; and enjoyed gardening, traveling, camping, fishing, crochet, needlework, and cross-stitching. Music was a big part of her life, and she played the piano for church service in Wichita and to accompany Sunday School for the youth at the Shawnee United Methodist Church. As a volunteer in church, she was active in the group that made cancer bandages. She is remembered in her neighborhood for her Christmas tree cinnamon rolls, that she would bake and have her children deliver to neighbors. Having grown up during the Depression, like many of that generation that had everything but money, she became an expert at repurposing everyday items.
Floreine is survived by her four children, Martin Crumrine (Judy), Jean Crumrine, Jack Crumrine (Brigitte), Judy Dettmer (Keith), 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren
