Floyd Taylor Smith

Floyd T. Smith, 82, Shawnee, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center.

Floyd was a sergeant in the United States Marin Corps 1947-1952 and served during the Korean War. Following the war he returned to Kansas City area and found employment with the Black and Veatch Company where he retired in 1993 after 38 years of service. During his employment Floyd joined the American Legion Post #327 and served the post with various offices from the 1990's through current and including District Commander.

Floyd was preceded in death by his wife Helen Smith and a grandson Ronnie Bess. Survivors include his partner Percilla Fleek of the home; one son Okey (Jeri) Bess, Hot Springs Village, Arkansas; two grandchildren, Christy (Philip) Heath, Dallas, Texas and Brandon (Kela) Bess, Melvern, Arkansas; and one great grandchild, Damon Heath.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Post #327, 6521 Nieman Road Shawnee, Kansas 66203.

Visitation and Funeral Service

Visitation will be from 9:00-10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 23, 2011, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. A funeral service will follow at 10:00 a.m. Burial in St. Joseph Memorial Park, St. Joseph, Missouri.
