Frances Kerby Felder

February 1, 1925 — September 17, 2021

Frances K. Felder, 96, our beloved Mom, Grandma, and Frandma passed away Friday, September 17, 2021 at her home in Lenexa, KS. Visitation will be 12 to 1 p.m. Thursday, September 23, 2021 at the Amos Family Funeral Home. A celebration of life will follow at 1 p.m. She will be laid to rest with her husband in Leavenworth National Cemetery.

Our mom was born February 1, 1925 in Hartford, KS to the late Justin and Rachel (Shale) Kerby. she graduated from Chanute High School in 1943. During WWII she attended Kansas State University and fell in love with a soldier form South Carolina, Edwin Felder, stationed at Fort Riley, KS. He was sent to Europe and Mom wrote to him everyday. Mom earned her BS degree in Medical Technology and graduated from Kansas State University (go Wildcats) in 1947. On March 1, 1947, Mom and Dad were married in Chanute, Kansas. They lived in South Carolina and Mom earned her PHTS degree (Putting Hubby Through School). She worked as a medical technologist at Columbia Hospital and the VA Hospital. The family moved back to Kansas in 1955, and our Mom worked over 30 years total for two doctors. In many ways or Mom was a pioneer in choosing and loving her Medical Technology career when it was not the social norm. Mom chose to retire in 1987 and explored and expanded her love of quilting. She was an active member of Quilters Guild of Kansas City, Johnson county Quilt Group, Workshop Quilt Group, and the Cellar Sew-ers. She made beautiful quilts for family, friends, and charities. Mom's other passion was reading well written historical and intelligent fiction. She had a knack for picking bestselling authors before they ever made the top 10 list. Our mom was dedicated to her family and profession juggling the many responsibilities with grace. Mom instilled in her daughters the importance of education, independence, and critical thinking. She was a woman to love, respect, admire, and honor. She exemplified all the wonderful qualities of the Greatest Generation.

She is preceded in death by her husband Edwin Felder; sister, Barbara Finnegan and brother, William Kerby. She is survived by her daughters Barbara Russell and husband Charles, Nancy Bunn and husband James; two grandsons Bryan Bulmer and wife Katie, Matthew Stump and wife Jody; three great granddaughters, Hannah Bulmer, Ava Bulmer, and Kylie Stump.
