Frances Holyfield, 83, of Kansas City, Kansas, passed away Monday, November 04, 2013, surrounded by her loving family at the Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri.
Frances was born January 17, 1930. She was raised on the family farm in western Shawnee, where she attended Round Prairie School, a one room schoolhouse. Frances graduated from Bonner Springs High School in 1948, where she played softball. Later in life Frances went on to earn an Associates degree from Kansas City Kansas Community College.
She was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. Frances looked forward to spending time with her family camping and boating at Perry Lake. She was active in her children's lives and enjoyed being a Scout Leader, serving on the PTA and was a Piper School Board member for over 12 years.
Frances and Jerry were avid Sprint car fans. They attended hundreds of races together and one summer attended 32 races in 28 days. Frances enjoyed quilting, collecting cookbooks and watching professional bull riding.
Frances is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Jerry; five children: Jeff Holyfield and wife Jan, Roger Holyfield and wife Mary, Amy Lipnicky and husband Randy, Martin Holyfield and wife Margie, and Jason Holyfield and wife Jennifer; sister, Gert Chrisman; 13 grandchildren: Tyler Holyfield, Matt Holyfield, Christine Holyfield, Kelsey Lipnicky, Katie Holyfield, Madalyn Holyfield, Emma Holyfield, Tori Holyfield, Allie Holyfield, Ashlyn Lipnicky, Winston Holyfield, Augusta Holyfield, and Ellie Lipnicky; and great-granddaughter, Sophia Crider.
A memorial visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, November 7, 2013, at the Amos Family Funeral Home and Crematory.
The family suggests memorial contributions in lieu of flowers to the Down Syndrome Guild, 5960 Dearborn, Suite 100, Mission, Kansas 66202; or to the Kansas City Hospice House, 12000 Wornall Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64145.
