Frank G. Wylie died on June 28, 2014, in Shawnee, Kansas. He was 86 years old. Frank was born in Clay Center, Kansas, on May 2, 1928. He was the youngest of George and Blanche Wylie’s three children, preceded by Charlotte Wylie (Nushy) and Mary Wylie (Cavin). Frank graduated from Clay Center High School in 1946 and from Kansas State University in 1955. There, he was a member of Theta XI fraternity. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years, much of it aboard the battleship USS New Jersey off the coast of Korea. Frank married Opal Vrana on Feb. 10, 1957, in Oklahoma City. They moved to Tulsa and had three children: Ann, Lynn and Bill Wylie. The family moved to Houston in 1966 and settled in Shawnee in 1969. Frank worked as an accountant at Standard and Apache oil companies. In 1969, he joined his Uncle Lee Cooper’s accounting firm, Cooper Wylie Kane. He passed his CPA exam - on the first try - in 1971. He opened Frank G. Wylie CPA a few years later. Frank retired in 1987. For 17 years, he continued to work tax season, preparing returns through AARP’s Tax Aide Foundation for people who couldn’t afford an accountant. Frank was an avid golfer and chess player. He was a Life Master bridge player. He remained a passionate fan of the K-State Wildcats throughout his life. Frank is survived by his wife, Opal, of Shawnee, Kansas; his children, Ann Wylie of Portland, Oregon, Lynn Wylie of Kansas City, and Bill Wylie, of Chandler, Arizona; his son-in-law, Phil Smith, of Portland, Oregon and his daughter-in-law, Yuko Kawase Wylie, of Chandler, Arizona; his granddaughter, Laura Wylie; his sister, Mary Cavin; and his beloved dog, Angel.

Visitation & Memorial Service

A visitation will be held from 10:30 to 11:00 am Wed. July 2nd at the Amos Family Funeral Home & Crematory. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 am.
