Fred A Lockard

November 10, 1952 — July 1, 2021

Fred A. Lockard, 68, of Shawnee, KS, passed away on July 1st, 2021. He was born on November 10th, 1952, in Waterloo, IA, to Roger and Mary Alice Lockard. After graduating from high school in Chariton, IA, he attended MidAmerica Nazarene College in Olathe, KS, where he majored in liberal arts and was part of a barbershop quartet called The Messengers.

Fred spent most of his life as a dedicated Freemason who excelled at oration and ritual work. His impressive credentials within the various appendant Masonic bodies are too numerous to include here, but his avid pursuit of further light was a process that he strongly believed made him a better man, and he made many lifelong friends within the fraternity over his decades of service.

Fred loved. This is who he was. He loved his wife and soulmate, he loved books, and football, and the Lodge. He also loved animals, and he never met a dog that didn’t love him in return. His love of music ran especially deep, and he would sing along to any song he recognized, at full volume, sometimes conducting in the air to match the tempo of the song when it felt right, which seemed to be often.

Fred was generous and wanted to provide for the people he loved and make sure they were always safe. He had five older siblings, and many nieces and nephews along the way. He was proud to be a father to his children, and he was overjoyed at the birth of his grandchild. We hope he will be remembered like this. A loving man that laughed loudly and gave magical hugs.

Fred was preceded in death by his sister Leasa Magee, and his brother Bert Lockard. He is survived in his passing by his wife Connie, and three of his siblings: His brother Roget Lockard and wife Susan, his sister Lyn Weatherly and husband Jay, and his brother Leo Lockard and wife Brenda. He also leaves behind his daughter Lori Lyn Lockard, his son Randall Lockard, his son Eric Speer and wife Melody, and his granddaughter Shelby Speer.
