Fredrick L. Lindsey

February 17, 1946 — June 4, 2022

Fredrick L. Lindsey (Fred) of Olathe, KS passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Saturday, June 4th, 2022.   Fred was born in Kansas City to Raymond and Rose Lindsey on February 17, 1946.  He was an athlete and graduate from Piper High School where he met and married his high school sweetheart, Barbara.  He soon was drafted into the Marine Corp and served in Vietnam, wherein he was injured, causing him to be paralyzed from the chest down.  He was promoted to sergeant rank and presented with a purple heart.  He was a Marine through and through for the rest of his life.
Fred's family describes him as a courageous and inspirational person who persevered through all the obstacles that were thrown his way.
Throughout his life,  he coached and played wheelchair basketball along with numerous other sports including running races, tennis, water skiing, snow skiing, scuba diving, and handcycling bike trails around the U.S. with family and friends.  He shared his love of sports by coaching the Lucky Ladies softball team and running a wheelchair sports program in the Kansas City area for adults and children for many years.
Fred loved to learn and was very knowledgeable.  After working for the Veteran's Administration for a few years, he went on to earn a Bachelors in Recreational Therapy from Washburn University and later was an educator for the DeSoto school district.  He loved to read books, work crossword puzzles, and beat everyone at Trivia Pursuit and Scrabble.
Fred was well known for his sense of humor.  If he gave you a hard time - that meant that he liked you.  There rarely was a dull moment with him.  He was quite the jokester and made those around him laugh.
He loved to have fun and enjoyed riding around in all-terrain vehicles, camping, boating and traveling.  He was an avid video gamer and impressed family with his knowledge and technology expertise.  He was known to have all the toys and be the "fun" person to be around.
Fred was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara; his parents, Ray and Rose; and his stepson, David Hosch.  He leaves behind his wife, Linda; his daughters Christine (Ken) and Stacy (Christian); stepson Eddie (Melissa), grandchildren (Garett, Alden, Lexi, and Joe); brother, Jerry; niece, Jennifer Wirick; and pets, Pete and Freddie.
Private graveside services will take place Thursday, June 16 at Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery with military honors.
