Freida Madge Miner went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 10th. She had celebrated her 90th birthday on May 25th with many friends and family. Born in 1924, Freida was the first child of three born to Edwin and Lenora Cozens in Penalosa, KS. She graduated from Lewis, KS High School and soon after moved to Topeka, KS where she was employed by the federal government. It was in Topeka that she met the love of her life, Charles Miner, and they married in 1944 while he was in the US Navy. After living on a couple Navy bases, they settled in Topeka, KS and raised two children, Barbara and Dennis. Charles' career lead them to the Kansas City area in 1965, and they resided in both Shawnee and Mission for the next several years. Freida lived simply and loved being a homemaker, wife and mother. She enjoyed sewing, tending plants, crossword puzzles, church activities and time with her family. She was a long-time member of the Countryside Christian Church, Mission, KS. Her final residence was in Lansing, KS at the Twin Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Center where she died peacefully in her sleep. Freida was preceded in death by her father, Edwin Cozens and her mother, Lenora Madge McPeek-Cozens; her husband Charles Miner; her younger brother Charles Cozens; her son-in-law Jim Oelke; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Oelke of Nashville, TN; and her son Dennis (wife Cory) of Parkville, MO; a brother, Orman Cozens (wife Betty) of Lass Vegas, NM; 7 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild; many nieces and nephews; and friends. The family "thanks" the staff at Shawnee Heartland Assisted Living in Shawnee, the staff at Twin Oaks Nursing Center in Lansing, and the staff of Crossroads Hospice in Kansas for their tender loving care of Freida. Also much appreciation to her church family at Countryside Christian for the dozens of lovely cards, get-well wishes and friendships. She was indeed blessed by all of you!
A memorial service will be held Friday, Oct. 17th at 11:00 am at the Countryside Christian Church, Mission, Kansas.
