Garland Robert “Bob” Thomas

Garland "Bob" Robert Thomas, 85, Shawnee, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at the Olathe Medical Center, Olathe, Kansas.

Bob was born March 18, 1928, in Queen City, Missouri, to Garland and Freda (Knittel) Thomas. He was a 1945 graduate of Shawnee Mission Rural High School. Bob was a veteran of the US Army during WWII. On May 16, 1948, Bob married Shirley Adams in Shawnee, Kansas. After getting married, Bob worked in home construction. In 1964, he began a farming career, lasting 43 years. He was a member of the Oldie Goldie Chevrolet Club and the United Methodist Church of DeSoto, Kansas .

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Thomas; daughter, Susan Hayes and husband, Brian, Wamego, Kansas; three sons, Mike Thomas and wife, Darla, Manhattan, Kansas, Paul Thomas and wife Vicky, Shawnee, Kansas, and Brian Thomas, Linwood, Kansas; sister, Karen Locke and husband, Steve, Junction City, Kansas; brother, Gene Thomas and wife, Huguette, Shawnee, Kansas; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren with one on the way in May.

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, March 29, 2013, at the Amos Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 30, 2013, at the funeral home; burial in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Kansas City, Kansas.
