Gary Lee Gourley

Gary Lee Gourley, 59, of Shawnee, KS, passed away on May 10, 2022 surrounded by his family at Olathe Medical Center.

Gary was born on October 13, 1962 to John and Phyllis Gourley in Corning, IA. After graduating from Lenox High School in 1981, he went on to study science and teaching at Northwest Missouri State University earning a bachelor’s degree. He continued on to Baker University earning a master’s in business administration.

In 1993, he met Ruth Ann (Kirch) Gourley, and they married April 16, 1994. Together they had four children, Taylor, Chase, Logan, and Brooke.

Gary’s passion was his family. His favorite activity was coaching sports from the bleachers. Sunday was his favorite day of the week. The entire family would gather for dinner and watch the same movies on television with the volume on low and the chatter of the family filling the room. Gary was kind to everyone and loved by many.

Gary is predeceased by his mother, Phyllis Gourley and sister, Pamela Gourley. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann Gourley, children, Taylor (David) Hanson, Chase (Sadie) Gourley, Logan Gourley (Addison Godwin), and Brooke Gourley, anticipated grandchild, Lennox Gourley, father, John Gourley, and brothers, Dennis (Linda) Gourley, and David (Jolene) Gourley.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the Amos Family Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. also at Amos Funeral Home. Gary will be laid to rest at Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens following his funeral.
