Gary Stanley "Stan" Rogers

July 9, 1947 — November 22, 2021

Gary Stanley “Stan” Rogers, 74, of Overland Park, KS passed away at home November 22, 2021, after a yearlong illness.

The fifth of seven children, Stan was born July 9, 1947, in MacCarther, West Virginia, the son of Robert Allen and Hazel Mae (Ball) Rogers. Much of his childhood he lived in West Virginia and then Florida before moving to Lawrence, KS then finally Osawatomie, KS where he graduated high school in 1966.

Stan married JoAnn Cook on September 10, 1967, at the First Christian Church of Osawatomie. They had two children, Michelle and Rebecca. They were divorced in 1981.

He met Judy Elaine Hauk and they married on March 20, 1982. They were happily together 40 years, sharing many of the same interests.

Stan proudly served a total of 4 years in the U.S. Navy as a Communications Specialist, where he was stationed in Guam, Morocco and Pensacola, FL.

Stan joined the Johnson County Sherriff’s Office as a deputy in March of 1971. While working full time, he attended Johnson County Community College where he received his Associate of Arts degree, followed by his Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from Avila University. After 27 years in service, he retired as a Sergeant in December of 1997.

After retiring from the Sheriff’s Office, Stan, and his wife Elaine, owned and operated Midwest Motorcycle Training Center (MMTC) in Olathe, KS for 7 riding seasons (2003 through 2009), training nearly 6,000 riders and 70+ Rider Coaches.

Stan loved travelling and camping but his passion was motorcycle riding and had ridden close to a million miles. Going to Bike Week in Daytona Beach, Florida with his best friend Bill Evans was an annual highlight for many years.

For 32 years, Stan was a proud member of the KC Metro Chapter of the Blue Knights Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club where he formed many long-lasting friendships. Ride With Pride … keep the shiny side up. Don’t ride faster than your guardian angel can fly.

Stan leaves behind his wife, Elaine; daughter Michelle (Matt) Hays, granddaughters Kylie, Jordan, and Logan; daughter Rebecca Giannola, grandson Soren and granddaughter Hadley; stepdaughter Elizabeth (Eric) Morris, grandson Joshua and granddaughter Natalie; stepson John (Deanna) Hauk and granddaughter Gretta; stepson Tony Hauk, brother Jerry (Jan) Rogers; sister Regina (Ken) Woodall … as well as many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Allen and Hazel Mae Rogers; and siblings Buster “Buck” Rogers, Dora Lee Rogers, Grace (Jack) Hector, and Teresa (John) Murray.
