George B. Brown

George B. Brown, 88, of Lenexa, Kansas, formerly of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away May 31, 2012.

He was born October 4, 1923 in Topeka, Kansas. He served in the US Army during WWII. He was united in marriage to Phyllis Attebery in 1947, they moved to the Shawnee area in 1950. They became members of Shawnee United Methodist Church in 1951. George worked for Santa Fe Railroad for 43 years before retiring in 1984.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Phyllis, son Larry, and his sister Winnie. George is survived by his daughter Mary McCoy, Shawnee; granddaughter Christine McCoy both of Shawnee; sister Mary Louise Smith of Portland, Oregon; brother-in-law, Clinton Attebery and his wife Shirley of Jacksonville, Florida, along with nieces and nephews and their families. George was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

A visitation will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at the Amos Family Funeral Home & Crematory. Funeral service will be held 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 6, 2012, also at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Highland Park Cemetery, Kansas City, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Shawnee United Methodist Church.
