George M. “Bud” Shepherd

January 2, 1927 — August 10, 2017

George M. "Bud" Shepherd died in Mission, Kansas on September 23, 2017.

Bud was born on January 2, 1927 to Marvin A. and Georgia Belle Shepherd.  He grew up in Prairie Village, Kansas and graduated from Shawnee Mission Rural High School (now SM North) in 1944.  While there, Bud played on two state championship basketball teams in 1943 and 1944 and was the team captain in 1944.  Bud was inducted into the Shawnee Mission North Athletic Hall of Fame in February, 2015.  He received an appointment to West Point where he also played basketball and graduated in 1949.  On graduation day, June 7, 1949 Bud married Eva E. Humphrey at the chapel at West Point.

They were married for 68 years until Eva passed on August 10, 2017.  Bud served in the US Air Force for four years during which time he flew a variety of transport planes, mostly to Japan and Korea.

He was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Marybelle S. Anderson.  He is survived by his sons and daughters in law; Tom (Laurie), Terry (Reine), David (Sharon), and Dan (Suzi).  Bud also leaves six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.   The family would also like to extend special thanks to Angie and the staff at Interim Hospice.

Visitation and Services

Services for Bud and Eva will be at Asbury United Methodist Church on October 28, 2017 at 2pm.  A visitation will be held prior to the service from 1-2:00 pm.

The family suggests contributions to Asbury United Methodist Church, 5400 W 75th St, Prairie Village, KS 66208 or to Interim Hospice, 8016 State Line Suite 205, Leawood, KS 66208.
