Gilbert Kovar, 87, Overland Park, Kansas, passed away Thursday, April 5, 2012, at his home.
Gilbert was born November 9, 1924, in St. Mary's, Kansas, to George and Vivian Kovar. He was veteran of the US Army during WWII. In 1945, Gilbert started work with US Postal Service, retiring in 1979 as a Postal Superintendent after 34 years of service. Gilbert married Ruth Erickson at the Merriam Christian Church on November 29, 1947. He was a member of the Shawnee Masonic Lodge.
Gilbert is preceded in death by his parents, son, John Kovar and daughter-in-law, Cheryl Kovar. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Ruth Kovar; daughter, Dorothy Kovar, Olathe, Kansas; two sons, Bob Kovar, Osawatomie, Kansas and Jim Kovar, Lenexa, Kansas; sister, Hazel McCullough, Overland Park, Kansas; 16 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be 12-1:00 p.m., followed by funeral services at 1:00 pm Monday, April 9, 2012, at the Amos Family Funeral Home and Crematory; burial in the Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
