Gladys M. Gardner, born August 31, 1916, in Salina, Oklahoma, died Saturday, November 28, 2009, at the age of 93 years.
Daughter of Charlie and Mary McCleery, she had 5 sisters, Rachel, Edna, Tina, Jessie and Vina, who all preceeded her in death. One daughter, Ray Dell Anderson, of Overland Park, also preceeded her in death.
On August 17, 1936 she married her only love, L. E. Gardner and they were married for 71 years. He preceded her in death in 2007. Together they had 3 children. The surviving children are Charles Gardner of DeSoto, Kansas and Doris Taylor of Merriam, Kansas. She is the proud grandmother to 9 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. She had numerous nieces and nephews that she treated the same as her own grandchildren and she loved them all.
She was a family woman, wife, homemaker and the consummate grandmother. There was nothing she couldn’t bake, can, butcher or sew. She passed peacefully Saturday evening following a family dinner to celebrate Thanksgiving. Many of the family members had left but several remained and were by her side as she passed. She is now in the arms of the Lord, her husband and all the family that have patiently awaited her homecoming.
