Hal Thomas Varner, 71, of Shawnee, KS, passed away the evening of Friday March 1st, 2019 after a long fought battle with Leukemia. Hal was born in Detroit, Michigan. He served in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged. He served Milgram's Grocery Store as a GM for 22 years. Then he went on to work for the USPS for over two decades before retiring. Hal had a deep passion for snow skiing, Keystone Mountain was his favorite resort. He was also a travel enthusiast, he loved to travel with his wife and see new places across the country. You would also find him at the gym 4-5 times a week keeping himself in great shape. He loved to cook and try new recipes and spices. In his downtime he loved to enjoy a great action or old western movie. Most of all though, Hal loved his time with family and all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years Sue, his daughter Stacey and significant other Dave, his son Shawn and daughter in law Erin, five grandkids Darcy, Dalton, Sydney, Alexa, Olivia, and Gianna along with five great grandchildren Ryder, Lincoln, Phoenix, Makaela, and Mekhi. He is also survived by his sister Carol and four brothers Don, John, Terry and Chris.

Hal lived his life to serve, he served our country, and he always served his wife Sue and took great care of her. He did whatever it took to take care of his kids and support them in their endeavors and had endless love for his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A visitation will take place on Thursday, March 7th from 6 to 8 PM at Amos Family Funeral Home, 10901 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, KS 66203.  Funeral service on Friday, March 8th at 10 AM also at Amos Family Funeral Home.  Burial at Resurrection Cemetery in Lenexa, KS.

Memorial donation’s in Hal’s name are welcomed for blood cancer research.
