Harland Heckadon was born September 21, 1940 to Melvin and Vada (Hobson) Heckadon.
God called Harland home November 8, 2022.
Harland was born in Rich Hill, Missouri, graduated from Rich Hill High School in 1958. He was active in basketball, track football and FFA. He grew up helping his dad on the farm, after high school he joined the United States Army stationed at Fort Sam, Houston.
After active duty he was a member of the Army Reserve in Kansas City, Missouri. He began working for Swift and Company and Swift Independent. Swift and Company is where he met the love of his life, Mary Reischman. May 4, 1963 they were united in marriage at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, in Shawnee, Kansas. This marriage was blessed with three children, Mary M., Vincent, and Mary Ann.
Harland wore many hats in his life. He was a hog buyer for most of his life. After he retired from Swift Independent, he began working at Olathe Public Schools then he transferred to Saint Pauls Catholic Schools.
Harland believed in giving of his time. He coached basketball, football and track for Saint Joseph High School in Shawnee, Kansas. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce and very active and Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Glenwood, Iowa.
He joined Knights of Columbus in Glenwood and was a member in Sigourney and Marshalltown, Iowa, Manhattan, Kansas, and his last council was Olathe, Kansas. He was a Fourth-Degree Knight. Harland was bestowed many awards and offices in his time with the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife, Mary of Shawnee; daughter, Mary Williams, (Roger Norton) of Nebraska City Nebraska, son, Vincent (Linda) Heckadon of Rosehill, Kansas, and daughter, Mary Ann White of Kansas City, Missouri. Grandfather to, Kathleen Pieken, Sarah Heckadon, Andrew Heckadon, Donald Roberts, Emily Heckadon, Lamont White and Morgan White, step, grandchildren, Jacob Williams, RJ, Norton and Crystal Norton; 6 great grandchildren. Brother-in-law, Joseph (Joyce) Reischman, Hank Soetaerr and sister-in-law, Anna McCormick. Many nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.
Harland was preceded in death by his mother and father; mother-in-law; father-in-law; brother, Dennis Heckadon; sisters, Lona Shivers, Nancy Gordon, and Sharon Holsworth; sisters-in-law, Rosemary Soetaert and Margaret Reischman.
Services will be on November 18, 2022 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Shawnee, Kansas. Visitation with family will be from 9 to 10 am at the church. A funeral mass will follow. Burial will be at Saint Joseph Cemetery.
