Harley R. West, 87, of Shawnee, KS passed away on November 25th, 2016. He was born on June 1, 1929 in Orlando, OK to Roy White and Martha Linden. Harley is survived by his wife, Gloria West, daughters Denise (Gene) Swisher, Karen (Randy) Gray, Joyce West, LaDonna (Dan) Buchman, grandchildren Shane Swisher, Brett (Camie) Swisher, Josh Prevatte, Mandy (Chad) Jordan, Bailey Buchman, Joseph Buchman and four great-grandchildren.
Harley was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a Purple Heart recipient. In September of this year he was able to go on the Heartland Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. He was an electronics technician by trade and retired from Fairway TV Service in Lenexa. He had a passion for woodworking and was meticulous in the craft. He and Gloria loved to travel and have visited 44 countries. Harley spent years researching and documenting an extensive family history and, after retirement he picked up a new hobby of writing. His first book, Another Lifetime, chronicled his experience in Korea. He then went on to write five additional books. All six books were published ebooks. Harley was also an avid fan of the Kansas City Golden Gloves and attended every year for the past 38 years.
A celebration of his life will take place on Thursday, Dec. 1 from 11am - 1pm at Amos Family Funeral Home.
