Harold F. Hesemann

July 10, 1930 — September 21, 2016

Harold F. Hesemann, 86, of Shawnee, Kansas passed away peacefully at home on September 21, 2016. He was born on July 10, 1930 to Edwin and Louise Hesemann (Sewing), and raised on the family farm near Drake, Missouri. Harold moved to Kansas City after high school and worked for Scoular Bishop Grain Company as an accountant and teletype operator.

Beginning in 1952 he served two years in the United States Army, where he worked as a message keeper, coding and decoding messages for an artillery company while stationed in Darmstadt, Germany. He then returned to Kansas City and subsequently spent more than 44 years working in the grain business. He served as a Vice-President at Rickel Grain, Geisel Grain and Benson Quinn. He was a member of the Kansas City Board of Trade from 1960 to 1992, and served on its board of directors.

Harold was an avid fisherman, loved boating, and spending time with his children and grandchildren teaching them how to fish and water-ski. He volunteered at Southridge Presbyterian Church, Argentine food kitchen and Harvesters. His enduring message to his family was to always be patient and help others. He married Ruth Ann Wilson, April 14, 1955, who preceded him in death in 2002 after 47 ½ years of marriage. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Armin Hesemann. He has been an active member of Southridge Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years.

He is survived by his two daughters, Jane Carpenter (David), Topeka, KS and Karen Hein (Mark), Shawnee, KS; 5 grandchildren, Joanna House (Matt), Saint Charles, MO, Erin Aldrine (Matt), Topeka, KS, Chris Carpenter, Creve Coeur, MO, Amy Hein & Steven Hein, Shawnee, KS and 3 great-grandsons (Noah, William and Jacob).

Visitation and Services

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23 at the Amos Family Funeral Home. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, at the funeral home with burial following in Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
