Harold “Sarge” Tevis

Harold Thomas "Sarge" Tevis 84, Kansas City, Kansas, passed away Monday, June 11, 2012, at Shawnee Gardens Nursing Center in Shawnee, Kansas.

Harold was born January 7, 1928, in Kansas City, Kansas, to Ralph Sr. and Alice Tevis. He grew up in Kansas City, Kansas and attended Wyandotte High School. Harold served over 20 years in the U.S. Army and received numerous medals including the Bronze Service Star for his service during the Vietnam War. After retiring from the U.S. Army on February 1st 1967, Sarge began a career with Simmons Mattress in Fairfax, Kansas, until retirement in 1988.

He was a member of the VFW and American Legion and later recalled that his two favorite foreign stations where Germany and Japan.

He is preceded in death by his wife of over 29 years, Edna Earlene Tevis in 2000, parents, sister, Lillian Kennedy and brother, Ralph Tevis, Jr. Survivors include his two brothers Robert Tevis, Kansas City, Kansas and Richard Tevis, Shawnee, Kansas; and many other family members and friends.

Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m., Sataurday, June 16, 2012, at the Amos Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Graveside service will follow at 11:30 a.m. Pleasant View Cemetery, Shawnee, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial contributions to a charity of your choice.
