Harriett “Hattie” Runyan Gilmore

Harriett "Hattie" Runyan Gilmore passed away Saturday, November 24, 2018.  Hattie was born to Wendell L. Runyan and Ruth A. (Wayham) Runyan April 16, 1949 in Kansas City MO.  Hattie will be remembered as a woman devoted to her family and friends; and as someone who cared for all she met.

Hattie grew up in Raytown MO, graduating from Raytown South High School.  She earned a B.S. in Education from the University of Missouri in Columbia, a M.S. Ed. and Ed.D. from the University of Kansas.  She was a lifelong learner and educator-devoting her career to children and teachers.

Hattie and her husband, Jim Gilmore, were married in 1982.  Through their years of love, they shared three children, six grandchildren and many travels and adventures.  Her family provided the core of her happiness.  Additionally, many lifelong friends blessed Hattie with support, laughter, and more love.

Hattie is preceded in death by her mother Ruth, father Wendell, and step-mother Alyce (Wheeler) Runyan.

Hattie is survived by her husband Jim of their home in Shawnee KS; daughter, Wendi Carlson, of Kansas City MO; son, Jacob Carlson, (Kelly O'Bannon) of San Francisco; and step-daughter, Vicki LaCosta, (Scott) of Ft. Worth TX; brother, John Acker Jr. (Wendy) of Lee's Summit MO; and her six beautiful grandchildren.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Hattie requests, in lieu of flowers, donations to Stand Up to Cancer, the University of Kansas Medical Center Cancer Center, or the University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth, KS.
