Harriett Holbert Horn

August 16, 1931 — April 29, 2015

Harriett Holbert Horn, 83, formerly of Cedarburg, WI passed away April 29, 2015 in Shawnee, KS. Harriett was born on Aug. 16, 1931 in Lee's Summit, MO. Harriett was a graduate of Lee's Summit High school-Class of 1949. She studied at the University of Central Missouri-Warrensburg for two years then transferred to the University of Missouri her junior year graduating with a Bachelors of Education in 1953. Lifetime member of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority. Harriett met her husband, George E. Horn Jr. in college and were married June 12, 1953. Harriett was a wife, mother, grandmother who loved God and her family. Harriett was an educator; teaching elementary and middle school for 40 years. She taught in the Lee's Summit, MO; Wichita, KS and Cedarburg, WI Public School Districts. Her longest teaching span was in Cedarburg, WI teaching from 1965-1993. She respected the individuality of each child; encouraging and nurturing creativity as well as guiding each one to take responsibility and set high goals for success. In retirement, she enjoyed traveling with her family and friends and reading her favorite mystery books. Harriett is survived by one daughter, Leslie (Barton) Berning, Shawnee, KS. Two grandsons, Bennett (Kristen) Berning, Roeland Park, KS and Grant Berning, Shawnee, KS. Harriett was preceded in death by her parents. Husband George E. Horn Jr. in 1998. Thank you to Shawnee Hills Senior Living, Interim Health Care and Kansas City Hospice for their wonderful support and care.

Services

A Visitation is set for 10 - 11 AM, Saturday, May 9, 2015 at Shawnee Park Christian Church, 16500 Midland Dr. Shawnee, KS 66217 with a memorial service immediately following.
