Harry Joseph Gray

Harry Joseph Gray, 82, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away Saturday, October 13, 2012, in Riverside, California.

Harry was born October 25 1929, to the late Margaret Gray in Kansas City, Missouri. Harry graduated from De La Salle High School and went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in chemistry from Rockhurst University. On September 13, 1952, Harry married Ellen Quinlan, she preceded him in death on August 24, 2003, after 50 years of marriage. He joined the Army in 1953 and served during the Korean War.

Harry worked as a Water Purification Chemist for Ashland Chemical Company before retiring in 2003. He was an active member of Holy Spirit Catholic Parish for 29 years and was a member of the German Philatelic Society, the Midwest Philatelic Society and the Salt and Pepper Club.

Harry loved to travel, and enjoyed "harassing" the fish at Hillsdale Lake in Kansas. He was an original Los Angeles Rams fanatic and avid stamp collector. Harry enjoyed being a grandpa, attending school performances, field trips, spring break, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his three daughters, Kathleen Bailey and husband James, Patricia Wolnik and husband Phillip, and Barbara Wright and husband Paul; two sons, Michael Gray and wife Linda, and David Gray; eleven grandchildren; seven granddogs; and one grandkitty. Harry is also preceded in death by a son Christopher J. Gray and brother, John Donald Gray.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, October 22, 2012, at the Amos Family Funeral Home in Shawnee, where a Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 11300 W. 103rd Street, Overland Park, Kansas. Burial with military honors will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Kansas City, Missouri.
